We’re supporting a major Highways Technology & Civil Engineering provider as they expand their Loop Engineering & Detection Installation team across Greater London and the South East. This is a stable, long-term role working on a prestigious national framework — with excellent earning potential thanks to regular overtime, shift uplift, and consistent workflow across the M25 and wider network.
You’ll be carrying out loop installation, repair, fault-finding, and reinstatement works using hot bitumen, micro-trenching, and specialist detection technologies. You’ll also work with a range of plant and equipment including saws, breakers, diggers, and reinstatement tools.
Full training, development, and progression pathways are provided, making this an ideal opportunity for an experienced/ senior Highways Operative or Loop Engineer looking for long-term security and a strong annual income.
The Role
- Carry out loop installation, repair, and replacement works across the M25 and South East
- Complete diagnostic fault-finding on traffic signal detection systems
- Install magnetometers, micro-trenched loops, and associated technology
- Operate diesel, petrol, and electric floor saws
- Undertake hot bitumen, hot/cold tarmac, and reinstatement works
- Use hand-held and driven breakers, compaction plates, and vibrating rollers
- Operate micro/mini diggers and complete manual excavation using insulated tools
- Install temporary barriers and traffic/pedestrian segregation
- Ensure all works meet Highways England’s Safety, Customer, and Delivery imperatives
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and smooth handover documentation
- Work nights, weekends, and on live networks when required
- Support internal and client audits to drive continuous improvement
Experience Required for Loop Engineer
- You must have experience in highways, civil engineering, or traffic technology works, ideally involving:
- Loop installation, repair, or reinstatement
- Traffic signal detection systems
- Highway maintenance or technology installation
- Use of saws, breakers, diggers, and reinstatement equipment
- Working on live networks, roadside, or high-risk environments
- Fault-finding and diagnostic work on detection systems
Loop Engineer Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of highway technology and detection systems
- Confident operating plant, tools, and reinstatement equipment
- Ability to diagnose and resolve loop and detection faults
- Comfortable working nights, weekends, and roadside environments
- Strong communication skills and a safety-first approach
- Able to follow technical drawings, method statements, and RAMS
- Adaptable and capable of delivering multiple activities
ESSENTIAL Requirements
- ECS Card
- Street Works (Excavation & Reinstatement)
- Full UK Driving Licence (HGV desirable)
- 5+ years’ experience in highways, civils, or detection works
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and on live networks
- Ability to pass a safety-critical medical
- DBS check
- Strong written and verbal English
- Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available)
Desirable: SSSTS, experience with Highways England frameworks, traffic signals knowledge
