Our client is looking to appoint a Tree Inspector to support the safe and sustainable management of trees across a busy highways network. This position is ideal for someone with strong inspection skills, a proactive approach to risk management, and a genuine commitment to environmental stewardship. The Tree Inspector will play a key role in monitoring tree health, identifying hazards, and helping to manage the growing impact of Ash Dieback across the region.

This is an opportunity to join a forward-thinking organisation where the Tree Inspector will contribute directly to public safety, biodiversity goals, and long-term resilience of the local landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct structured inspections of trees located along highways, public spaces, and other designated areas.
  • Assess tree condition, identify signs of Ash Dieback, and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations for appropriate action.
  • Record inspection findings using digital systems, ensuring accurate and up-to-date asset information.
  • Offer professional guidance to internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders on tree safety, health, and management strategies.
  • Support the creation and delivery of Ash Dieback response plans, including prioritisation of works and replanting initiatives.
  • Oversee contractor activities to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to wider sustainability and biodiversity programmes through informed tree management and replacement schemes.
  • Ensure all activities undertaken by the Tree Inspector align with current legislation, health & safety standards, and industry best practice.
Person Specification
  • Qualification in arboriculture or demonstrable experience in tree inspection, ideally with exposure to Ash Dieback assessment.
  • Understanding of recognised tree-risk assessment systems (e.g., QTRA, THREATS, VALID).
  • Strong knowledge of arboricultural legislation, standards, and modern management practices.
  • Confident using GIS or digital data-capture tools for inspection recording.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Professional membership of relevant bodies (e.g., Arboricultural Association, Institute of Chartered Foresters) is desirable.
  • Experience working within highways, local authority, or large-scale infrastructure environments.
  • Chainsaw or aerial tree-work qualifications (NPTC or equivalent) are beneficial but not essential.
  • Aware of broader biosecurity issues, pests, and disease-management strategies.
