The Senior Workshop Engineer will support the day-to-day operation of the Rig Move and Positioning Workshop in Dyce, Aberdeen, ensuring survey and positioning equipment is maintained, calibrated, tested, and fully prepared for offshore mobilisation. The role will provide technical guidance and support to workshop personnel, trainee technicians, and offshore field crews, assisting with equipment troubleshooting, system integration, and operational problem solving.
Working closely with project teams and offshore personnel, the Senior Workshop Engineer will lead equipment preparation activities, support vessel mobilisations and demobilisations, and assist in the development of technical procedures, setup guides, and training material. The role also includes mentoring junior personnel and contributing towards the continuous improvement of workshop processes, equipment standards, and operational practices. This position is suited to an experienced and motivated individual with a strong technical background in survey, positioning, electrical, electronic, or marine systems, who is looking to play a key role in supporting both workshop and offshore operations while contributing to the ongoing development of the department and its technologies.
Duties/Responsibilities- Day-to-day coordination of workshop activities, including housekeeping, maintenance, and upkeep of premises
- Provide technical guidance and support to Workshop Technicians
- Act as a key communication link between the workshop team and the Rig Move and Positioning department project management team
- Oversee workshop floor activities and operational readiness
- Actively contribute to the development of survey and positioning hardware and software solutions, including design and implementation of new systems
- Provide operational leadership and ensure continuity of workshop activities in the absence of the Workshop Manager
- Support the assembly of survey and positioning hardware in accordance with in-house designs
- Assist the Workshop Manager with identifying procurement requirements for survey and positioning systems
- Carry out calibration and testing of selected survey and positioning systems
- Deliver training to offshore personnel on survey and positioning hardware and software
- Provide technical support to field crews, including troubleshooting and problem resolution for offshore equipment issues
- Support workshop coordination and administration activities
- Assist with configuration of offshore projects
- Compile and maintain technical documentation and user guides for survey and positioning hardware and software
- Support equipment export/import processes on a cover basis
- Actively contribute to Health, Safety and Environment systems and support a zero-incident culture
- Assist the Workshop in preparing survey and positioning equipment for projects, including selection, configuration, bench testing, packaging, and manifesting
- Arrange rental of auxiliary equipment as required
- Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics for survey and positioning equipment on a cover basis
- Maintain shipment registers on a cover basis
- Participate in the on-call rotation for offshore support, vessel mobilisation, and demobilisation activities
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of offshore operations and participate in Development Meetings
- Strive for zero HSE incident rate in the workshop
- Conduct all activities in a safe manner and according to company policies and procedures.
- Perform Reviews, Inspections and Audits in accordance with the UTEC Annual QHSE development Plan
