Job Description
Purpose
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician to join the Passive Safety Department based at UTAC Millbrook. The successful role holder will be responsible for supporting Safety test acrtivities as a full time technician within one or multiple test functions within the departments – SLED, Crash, Safety Systems and ATD & Instrumentation test labs and develop into a fully competent Passive Safety Test Technician.
Responsibilities
Prepare rigs for sled tests to customer requirements
Mechanical fitting of test fixtures
Set up high speed cameras for test filming to customer and / or legislative requirements
Set up computer-controlled data acquisition systems
Collect, download and filter data during tests
Setting crash test dummies to customer requirements
Liaise with UTAC Engineers and wider UTAC team as and when necessary
Work to set procedures and work instructions
Conduct all the work whilst always adhering to the requirements of OH&S
Act in accordance with the behaviours UTAC core values at all times – Innovation, Integrity and Expertise
Qualifications
Qualifications
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent experience
HNC/HND in Engineering (preferred but not compulsory)
Experience
Previous Mechanical or electrical technician experience
Experienced in a vehicle workshop/testing environment
FARO Arm or CMM operator experience will be advantageous
Setting up and operating high speed cameras will be advantageous
Welding and fabricating experience (preferred but not compulsory)
Data acquisition experience on systems like Messring, DTS, HBM, Kissler, etc. (preferred but not compulsory)
Experience with setting up ATDs (Crash Test Dummies) and indisassembling/assembling them (preferred but not compulsory)
Skills
Strong mechanical fitting skills
Electrical Repair skills will be advantageous
Electronic diagnostics skills (preferred but not compulsory)
Ability to draft and follow written procedures and work instructions
IT literate
Knowledge of high-speed cameras, electrical filters, data acquisition and video capture will be advantageous
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills
