Job Description

Purpose
This role is to allow the candidate to develop into a core member of the ICE team within Propulsion. The candidate will be expected to run a project with the support of a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager. It is expected that the candidate will develop over time to become more autonomous and running more complex project work as customer demands change.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all H&S and quality procedures have been adhered to.
  • Deliver engineering objectives set by the Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager.
  • Generate engine installation packs and schematics for accurate test bed setups.
  • Identify engine/test delivery faults and collaborate with others to find effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine test data.
  • Analyse engine data and understand correct trends and causes for concern.
  • Support colleagues as required to achieve wider goals.
  • Track project efficiency and maintain project-related invoicing.
  • Devise and lead initiatives to reduce waste and optimise efficiency.
  • Participate in regular customer update meetings.
  • Act in accordance with the behaviours for UTAC staff at all times.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Automotive/Mechanical Engineering HND or Degree.
  • Relevant experience of testbed operation will be considered in place of qualifications.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience in an automotive engineering discipline.
  • Test bed experience in an automotive testing environment.
  • Excellent understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical fundamentals.
  • Able to create test automation procedures/schedules with a view to maximise automated running.
  • Work closely with customer engineering teams to establish and carry out test programs.
  • Experience of a wide variety of engine types would be advantageous (Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).

Skills

  • Understanding of engine fundamentals and materials characteristics.
  • Appreciation of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Use of engine test cell equipment & software including engine dynos, instrumentation and calibration tools.
  • Experience and understanding of emissions measurement equipment would be advantageous.
  • Working knowledge and experience of AVL Puma, Horiba STARS and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems. In-depth knowledge of other automation systems would be considered.
  • Data interpretation, critique and presentation, using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Ability to write formal reports using UTAC standard templates.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
