The Systems & Components team delivers a wide variety of tests across multiple industries (automotive, defence, mass transit, aerospace) focusing on the quality and durability of products. The rapidly evolving mobility landscape, with major developments in electrification and automation, is leading to significant changes in how people interact with products. This is driving a need for innovative solutions to ensure that future and existing products meet these new user requirements and our team works closely with customers to develop robust and reliable tests for these changing use cases.
As an Engineer within the Systems & Components team you will be responsible for working closely with customers to develop and deliver a range of tests to provide accurate and reliable solutions across an array of projects, from small scale upgrades through to whole vehicle platform releases. Using a variety of automation systems you will create rigs to replicate a component's in-service conditions and collect and collate appropriate data to report to your customer.
Responsibilities- Work closely with customers to understand their requirements, develop tests to replicate real world scenarios and produce accurate and reliable data.
- Coordinate, supervise and conduct tests and lab activities, working with engineers and technicians.
- Programming of automated test equipment using a variety of tools (PLC, micro-controllers, climatic & vibration controllers).
- Document and report test progress in a clear and concise manner.
- Develop risk assessments for tests.
- Rig design and preparation using CAD packages.
- Actively participate in continuous improvement activities to ensure ever improving facilities, processes and test methods.
- Undertake analysis of results, including statements of conformity or opinions and interpretations.
- Act in accordance with the code of conduct for UTAC group staff at all times.
- Qualified to bachelor degree or equivalent with appropriate experience, preferably in an automotive or electrical discipline.
- Use of programming & automation systems.
- Knowledge of sensor types and applications, including accelerometers, thermocouples, force transducers etc.
- Experience of technical report writing.
- Experience using climatic and/or vibration test equipment.
- Strong organisational, analytical and excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to find creative solutions to problems.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Practical - able to carry out at least basic workshop fitting tasks.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Flexibility to support test activity outside of normal working hours.
- Full UK driving licence & own transport (UTAC Millbrook is not easily accessible via public transport).
- SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years).
- Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
This position will be based on site.
