A member of the UTAC Special Vehicles UK Team, this role provides practical and administrative support to technicians conducting project work for UTAC Special Vehicles. We are a project‑oriented business with a large number of project types, ranging from in‑service support of vehicle fleets to managing a ground‑up vehicle development/conversion project. The Technician Team focuses on strip, modification and rebuild of vehicles, and works alongside UTAC SV’s engineering function in the design and development of future vehicle projects. Technician Supervisors form a key element of the UTAC Special Vehicles Team and are primarily responsible for the following.
Responsibilities- Leadership and management of the Technician Team; daily performance monitoring, coaching and mentoring.
- Delivery of technician/workshop support to complex engineering programmes, working with a cross‑functional team to deliver to time, cost and quality parameters.
- Act as a role model for security, health, environmental and safety standards.
- Management of the strip, modification and rebuild of vehicle components.
- Ensure technical discrepancies are fed back to material control, engineering and production control.
- Hands‑on assistance when required, providing mentoring, training and coaching to Team leaders and the technician team.
- Undertake other duties as required to achieve the Company’s objectives, commensurate with the grading of the post.
- Focus on continuous improvement—working with engineering and production leadership teams to improve efficiency and quality during build.
- Conduct routine staff administrative tasks such as return to work interviews, performance reporting and time card completion.
- Adhere to the UTAC group code of conduct at all times.
- Industry trained with recognised motor vehicle qualifications; NVQ level 2 or City and Guilds preferred.
- Demonstrable leadership experience.
- Vehicle conversion experience in mechanical and/or electrical.
- Technician experience in a garage or dealership environment.
- Fabrication, glazing and electrical abilities desirable.
- Preferably experience of working with MoD and/or Automotive OEMs.
- Ability to confidently lead and inspire a multi‑skilled and broadly experienced team.
- Desire to provide excellent service and produce best‑in‑class results.
- Problem solving mentality, an agent for change, establishing, driving and embracing industry best practice.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Flexible and adaptable to new situations.
- Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check.
- SC clearance or ability to achieve this (UK national with residency in the UK for the last 5 years).
- Full UK driving license.
