Role Purpose
The Business Analyst will work from first principles, asking the right questions and constructively challenging requirements to uncover the real business need. The role focuses on converting ambiguity into clear, prioritised outcomes that delivery teams can execute effectively. This position requires strong analytical capability, a product development mindset, and a broad (non-specialist) understanding of finance, risk, governance, legal, and compliance considerations, including how corporate data is managed and used across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Elicit, analyse, and document business requirements through workshops, interviews, process walkthroughs, and data analysis.
- Challenge assumptions and proposed solutions to ensure requirements reflect true business problems and target outcomes.
- Translate business needs into clear, testable artefacts such as user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and data definitions.
- Define scope, priorities, and MVP approaches; support backlog creation, refinement, and ongoing prioritisation with Product and Delivery leads.
- Map and improve business processes (AS-IS / TO-BE) and identify operational impacts, controls, risks, and dependencies.
- Partner with risk, governance, legal, and compliance stakeholders to ensure requirements align with regulatory and organisational obligations.
- Support data-related analysis, including identification of data sources, definitions, lineage (where applicable), quality issues, and usage considerations.
- Maintain requirements traceability and manage changes, decisions, assumptions, and open questions.
- Support testing and implementation activities by clarifying requirements, assisting UAT planning, and validating delivered outcomes against acceptance criteria.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong core Business Analysis skills, including problem decomposition, requirements elicitation, stakeholder management, documentation, and facilitation.
- Proven ability to work effectively with unclear or evolving requirements and drive clarity through structured questioning.
- Solid understanding of product development approaches, including iterative delivery, MVP thinking, and value-based prioritisation.
- General understanding of financial services concepts and operational environments (not expected to be a subject-matter expert).
- Working awareness of risk, governance, legal, and compliance considerations, with the ability to articulate trade-offs and impacts.
- Understanding of corporate data concepts such as data ownership, definitions, quality, access, and appropriate usage.
- Strong communication skills, including clear writing, concise summarisation, and confident facilitation across business and technology teams.
- Comfortable working in cross-functional onshore/offshore delivery environments.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within asset management, wealth management, private markets, or group operating platform environments.
- Familiarity with Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum/Kanban), Jira/Confluence, and standard BA artefacts (user stories, BRDs, BPMN/Visio).
- Basic exposure to data analysis tools and techniques (e.g., Excel, SQL, or equivalent querying tools).
Key Behaviours
- Curious, structured, and outcomes-focused, with the confidence to challenge constructively.
- Pragmatic and delivery-oriented, balancing speed with control and governance requirements.
- Collaborative, transparent, and dependable, with strong follow-through.
