About the role
As an Investment Risk Associate, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role offers a great opportunity to be part of the IRO team.
The team is highly collaborative with investment desks and focuses on challenging investment risks (market, credit, concentration, liquidity, and ESG).
This is an exciting early-career role driving the growth and development of investment risk reporting for the IRO team.
The wider team oversees both public and private markets, providing extensive collaboration opportunities and great visibility to senior management.
What you will be doing
As a trusted member of the Financial Risk team, you will be responsible for:
- Assisting with the day-to-day production of analytics and reports across the investment risk spectrum for all asset classes (public and private markets).
- Providing analytical support for ad-hoc requests internally from IRO and externally across USS.
- Contributing to project delivery from start to finish, including planning, requirements gathering, and testing.
- Assisting with the implementation and enhancement of automated reporting within IRO.
- Collaborating closely with other IRO team members and the Financial Risk Infrastructure and Engineering team to identify process improvements.
- Automating and redesigning processes to improve risk reporting and analysis efficiency.

To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Excellent communication skills and confidence in building strong relationships with IRO and other teams.
- Early career experience in investment risk reporting/analytics, ideally in investment management or pensions/endowments.
- Experience in automating risk reporting.
- Experience in at least one (public markets) asset class; broad multi-asset class experience is a plus.
- Interest and understanding of private markets; prior experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of Excel, Python (not necessarily at developer level), and SQL.
- Knowledge of Power BI is desirable.
- Experience with external risk systems such as MSCI Barra One and/or Risk Manager.
- A self-starter with a \’can do\’ attitude, highly organized, and able to prioritize.
- Experience in embedding risk management frameworks and processes.
- Further qualifications and/or CFA charter-holder status would be beneficial but are not essential.
