About the role

In your role as Alternative Operations Manager you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset.

This role will provide a great opportunity to work within the Alternative Operations Team, a team formed in 2020 to oversee the end to end of USS’s £25bn+ Alternative Asset operational processes.

The team’s objective is to provide support for both existing assets and new deals, originated by the Private Markets Group (“PMG”), working closely with other operational support teams to onboard complex investment deals/structures and facilitate their integration in a controlled manner into USS’s operational environment.

The role will provide exposure to our end-to-end processes which support both existing and new alternative assets, working closely with the front office team and other support areas.

What you will be doing

As a trusted part of the Operations you will be responsible for:

  • Support Private Market deal teams by assessing operational impact, including accounting, cash flows, and structuring.
  • Coordinate with third-party providers and internal teams to ensure service provisions align with deal requirements.
  • Assist with delivery of existing business, including operating models, loan reconciliations, and interest calculations.
  • Input and configure data for Power BI reports; ensure timely reporting of events into Accelerate.
  • Strengthen relationships with fund administrators like Aztec and attend service reviews.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships across the full delivery lifecycle.
  • Drive scalable, controlled solutions to support efficient operations and reporting.

About you

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with 2–5 years\’ post-qualification experience.
  • Exposure to deal implementation and finance/operational processes.
  • Experience in private markets or credit investments desirable.
  • Familiar with Power BI and strong Excel skills.
  • Proven track record in project delivery with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
  • Knowledge of private market asset classes (e.g. property, private equity, private credit) preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with a flexible, can-do attitude and ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
