About UsHarris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich opened in September 2009 and is part of the Outstanding Harris Federation. Our vision is clear: nothing is impossible and everything is possible, irrespective of personal characteristics or background. Every problem has a solution. The academy’s specialisms are Enterprise and Sport with a ‘can-do’ ethos of always improving upon your personal best. The Academy will accommodate 750 boys when full. Harris Boys’ benefits from a state-of-the-art purpose-built building with the very latest facilities and equipment. The Academy offers a co-educational Post 16 with the nearby Harris Girls’ Academy, together comprising capacity for 400 Sixth Formers.

Academy Ethos
We encourage our students to be critical thinkers and promote these skills throughout the curriculum. A student at Harris Boys’ Academy will learn how to engage critically with foreign affairs, religion and society, issues of citizenship and the media, so they acquire the skills, and recognise the value of, thinking for yourself and thinking in a well-reasoned manner. Main Areas of ResponsibilityYour purpose of your role will be:
To manage premises budget, placing orders for materials and services with the aim of maximising benefits and minimising costs
To supervise all work completed by outside agencies on the premises and grounds, their services, fittings and equipment to ensure quality control
To build/refurbish, maintain, decorate and repair areas of the academy within your capabilities as required
To ensure academy vehicles are maintained, serviced and cleaned
To provide technical and craft support to teaching staff
To regularly inspect internal and external fabric of the buildings, taking on board and defects and prioritising necessary repairs
To liaise with Principal to ensure adequate security of premises during ‘out of hours’ activities
To be responsible for security systems and the security of the Academy, including maintenance of CCTV, fire and entry alarm systems
To schedule, prioritise and supervise the work of maintenance supervisors, cleaning staff and other members of staff within your area of responsibility
To promote and oversee community use and bookings of the premises, including liaising with the finance team
To manage the cleaning contract for compliance and quality
To liaise with premises staff in other academies to ensure that the benefits of Federation working in terms of staffing, economies of scale etc are gained.
Previous building management experience, preferably in a school environment
At least three years’ experience of working in a facilities based role
Understanding of Health & Safety legislation
Good organisational skills
The ability to communicate with staff, students and local residents from a range of difference backgrounds
The willingness to work after hours on occasion
