Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Experience: Completion of a fellowship or residency in Orthopedic Medicine, OR Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience within the last 3 years as an Orthopedic PA.
- Certification: Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Licensure: Hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a PA in any U.S. state or territory (including D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands).
- Immunization Requirements (Must be current or able to obtain): Hepatitis B (series and titer), Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis), MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), TB (Tuberculosis) test, COVID-19 vaccine (if applicable).
Key Responsibilities:
As a Physician Assistant in the Orthopedic Department, your role includes but is not limited to:
- Provide comprehensive musculoskeletal care, including evaluation and treatment of sprains, strains, contusions, back/neck pain, sports injuries, rheumatic diseases, and chronic pain.
- Management of neuromuscular and peripheral nervous system disorders.
- Injury rehabilitation and functional capacity assessments.
- Assist in pre‑, intra‑, and post‑operative orthopedic procedures, such as physical assessments, surgical prep, instrumentation setup, first/second assist during procedures.
- Wound care, dressing changes, splint/cast changes, and suture removal.
- Participate in daily rounds, review diagnostic results, write progress notes, and prepare discharge summaries.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients (orders to be reviewed by a supervising physician).
- Respond to pages/calls from the ER, clinics, and fleet regarding musculoskeletal issues.
- Review and respond to consults via the computerized referral system.
