The Role Overview

Useful Studio is an architectural practice, B Corp and Social Enterprise. We are committed to being a force for good in the built and natural environment. Our work focuses on retrofit and new build, with strong roots in circular principles and positive social outcomes. We are busy with exciting projects in education, workplace and infrastructure. We are looking for direct applications from outstanding Project Architects to join our team, to work on a range of workplace, residential, education and public realm projects. We are keen to meet candidates who are purpose driven with an interest in low carbon, reuse, and the circular economy with excellent design, production and communication skills. We are looking for driven, enthusiastic people who are keen to make a difference in the built environment and who will in turn challenge us to think differently and deliver our best.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day project delivery under guidance of associates and/or directors
  • Lead production of design and construction information including drawings, reports and specifications
  • Lead a design team from inception through to project completion
  • Ensure that all project deadlines are met and to the highest of standard
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, and other professionals
  • Work to a high standard both as part of a team and independently

Key considerations

  • UK registered ARB qualification
  • A minimum of 3 years’ post-qualified experience in the UK.
  • Experience leading projects through all RIBA work stages.
  • Evidence of relevant experience in workplace, residential, education and public realm projects
  • Ability to work autonomously and with agility, managing and leading junior members of the team
  • A full understanding of the UK statutory framework, including Planning and Building Regulations
  • Good knowledge of construction detailing and technical skills
  • Strong Revit skills to support design development and project delivery
  • Excellent freehand sketching, visualisation and computer modelling skills
  • Competency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
  • Personable, a team player, and generally a good all-rounded

Revit-Specific Expectations

  • Deliver coordinated, issue-ready drawings and communicate design intent through clear 2D/3D views for documentation and client presentations.
  • Set up and manage Revit models, views, worksets, phasing, and templates in line with project and office standards.
  • Confidently use design options to support iterative workflows
  • Extract accurate quantities and schedules from the model
  • Follow BEP requirements and ensure model integrity and compliance through regular audits and quality control.
  • Demonstrate experience working in multi-disciplinary environments with coordinated Revit workflows.
