Legal Advisor – Employment – Head Office (Ref 917) The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is one of the UK’s largest trade unions. A vacancy exists for a Legal Advisor – Employment in the Legal Services Department based at the Union’s Head Office in Salford Quays. The principal duties are: to provide administrative support to the employment section and the Union’s full-time officials, representing members with individual and multiple employment tribunal claims, and administer the Union’s settlement agreement scheme, whilst providing basic advice to members, lay and full-time officials on legal aspects of general industrial and employment issues. The successful applicant will possess: formal legal training, typically in the form of a Legal Executive qualification or other relevant qualification or equivalent practical legal experience; knowledge of employment and industrial law; knowledge of the principles and practice of legal claims having regard to the relevant rules of procedure of the Courts, Employment Tribunals, and Employment Appeal Tribunals; well-developed planning and organisational skills; basic IT skills; the ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
