We are seeking a skilled FinOps Consultant with strong expertise in Microsoft Azure to help organizations optimize cloud spend, improve financial transparency, and drive cost accountability across engineering and business teams. This role bridges finance, technology, and operations to ensure cloud investments deliver maximum business value.
Contract Length: 6 to 12 months + Extensions
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead FinOps initiatives aligned with the FinOps Framework (Inform, Optimize, Operate).
- Analyze and optimize costs within Microsoft Azure environments.
- Design and implement cost governance models, policies, and tagging strategies.
- Develop dashboards and reporting using Power BI or similar BI tools.
- Perform cost analysis across Azure services including compute, storage, networking, PaaS, and SaaS offerings.
- Identify savings opportunities (RI, Savings Plans, Spot VMs, right-sizing, storage tiering).
- Implement automation using tools such as Terraform and Azure DevOps.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate cost controls into CI/CD pipelines.
- Provide financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis for cloud spend.
- Support multi-cloud cost visibility where applicable (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform).
Required Skills & Experience:
- Deep hands-on experience with Azure services (VMs, AKS, App Services, Storage, Networking, SQL, Serverless).
- Strong knowledge of Azure Cost Management + Billing.
- Experience with Azure Reservations, Savings Plans, Hybrid Benefits.
- Understanding of cloud architecture and well-architected frameworks.
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience (Terraform, ARM/Bicep).
- Scripting skills (PowerShell, Python, or Bash).
- Familiarity with container platforms (AKS, Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of cloud security and governance best practices.
- Cloud cost modeling and unit economics (e.g., cost per product, cost per customer).
- Budget planning, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- KPI development and cost allocation methodologies.
- Advanced Excel and data modeling skills.
Governance & Process:
- Experience implementing tagging standards and cost allocation frameworks.
- Familiarity with FinOps maturity assessments.
- Vendor management and commercial negotiations.
Certifications (Preferred):
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- ITIL or similar governance certifications
