Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled developer to contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of front-end applications and back-end databases across ULP’s Windows and Linux environments. This role ensures that all IT solutions are secure, efficient, high quality, and aligned with our strategic application architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance software applications across both front-end and back-end systems.
  • Work closely with business analysts and end users to fully understand business requirements.
  • Deliver software solutions for new initiatives as well as enhancements to existing applications.
  • Ensure all applications adhere to security, compliance, and data protection standards.
  • Create and maintain clear and comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Participate in peer reviews for design and code quality.
  • Conduct and oversee unit, system, and regression testing.
  • Support user acceptance testing and assist with solution deployment.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance performance, stability, and maintainability.
  • Provide expert-level 3rd line application support, including support for overnight batch processes when required.
  • Perform departmental duties as needed, including callout responsibilities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of all applications supported by the team and share knowledge to build team resilience.
  • Perform ad hoc tasks as required.
  • Comply with FCA and PRA conduct rules, including Consumer Duty requirements.
  • Notify regulators of any relevant regulatory matters that require reporting.

  • Solid understanding of change management processes.
  • Ability to work from partial requirements and develop them into complete, robust solutions.
  • Experience with both logical and physical solution design.
  • Expertise in secure coding practices, debugging, diagnostics, and performance metrics.
  • Strong data management skills, including data modelling and understanding of database best practices.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking abilities for solving complex technical challenges independently.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality technical solutions with a practical, balanced approach.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, enabling effective collaboration within the team.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Proven track record of delivering successful projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience within financial services, preferably life and pensions, desirable.
