The primary purpose of this role is to serve as an operational crew leader, directing a team of three or more firefighters in the execution of tactical firefighting, technical rescue, and apparatus operations. The incumbent oversees the tactical deployment and operation of major motorized emergency apparatus, including structural pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and specialized Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) vehicles, ensuring rapid and coordinated incident responses.

Operationally, the position directs emergency mitigation across a wide range of complex scenarios, including airfield crash-rescue operations involving large airframes, structural fire suppression across complex research and industrial facilities, and hazardous material (HAZMAT) containment. The role is directly responsible for leading personnel extraction and technical rescue efforts, administering essential first aid and Basic Life Support to stabilize casualties, and preparing patients for safe medical evacuation.

Beyond emergency response, the position manages daily station readiness by delegating and supervising routine maintenance on all apparatus, tools, and fire station facilities. The incumbent enforces strict compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, proactively mitigating occupational hazards to ensure continuous mission readiness and personnel safety.

Position performs duties at RAF Croughton and RAF Fairford.
