The predicted salary is between 12 - 14 £ per hour.

This role is responsible for the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of water treatment/distribution and industrial waste collection systems. You will ensure the continuous operation of all associated equipment through hands-on troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and adherence to the highest safety standards.

Some key responsibilities involve operating, maintaining, and repairing potable and non-potable water treatment works and industrial waste systems. This includes troubleshooting and overhauling machinery, including pollution control and laboratory testing equipment. A key part of the job involves planning and laying out work using blueprints, sketches, and work orders. The operator will also perform preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and longevity, all while upholding safety regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Key Skills required for this role:

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electric, and electronic procedures, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components of industrial plant support machinery and equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating characteristics of the involved systems and equipment, and the applicable installation and repair procedures, methods, and trade practices.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and work with test equipment and measuring devices, such as micrometers, dial indicators, anometers, and volt meters.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of materials and parts used in wastewater treatment plant maintenance and installation of new equipment; and both primary/secondary water and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Skill in use of hand and power tools and a variety of test equipment.
  • Skill and ability to read and use the requirements in technical manuals, shop directives, multi-view blueprints, sketches, diagrams, work orders, and other specifications.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and maintain water and wastewater treatment plant equipment.
  • Ability to make templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for repair or installation.
  • Ability to independently diagnose, plan, and complete projects or work orders involving major systems in their entirety.

Conditions of employment for this role:

  • You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
  • You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.
  • You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Your work hours will be 39 hours per week on a fixed (Mon-Fri 0730-1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization's flexible working policies.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, CAT B, UK valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Employee must successfully obtain and maintain any necessary occupational related training/certificates in accordance with US and UK industry standards, and complete all management directed training.
  • Will be required to train/guide lower graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Shift work may be required.
  • Pre-Appointment physical/health screening is required.
  • Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination.
  • Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release.
  • The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.

NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK. This position may have certain restrictions to US citizens including US dual nationals due to the Status of Forces Agreement.
