Job Description

Under the direct guidance of a higher-grade Environmental Professional, the primary purpose of this developmental position is to build the core competencies required to manage, execute, and operate assigned Air Force environmental program elements. The incumbent engages in progressively challenging formal, informal, and on-the- job training outlined in a formal development plan, preparing them for the full performance level. Key responsibilities include monitoring and managing environmental projects—executed both in-house and through contracted support—to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local laws and policies, providing advisory services, coordinating program training across the installation, and maintaining strict adherence to safety and environmental standards. Non-competitive progression toward the target grade is contingent upon successful completion of regulatory training requirements, demonstrated proficiency at the higher grade level, compliance with all OPM promotion mandates, and supervisory recommendation.

  1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
  2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
  3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
  4. Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies. Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
  5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  6. This non-critical acquisition position is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program in Facilities Engineering. The incumbent must achieve the applicable certification within 24 months of assignment and maintain proficiency by earning 80 Continuous Learning Points every 24-month cycle.
  7. May be required to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Force during exercises or in the event of an actual emergency.
  8. The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing, however positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing
  9. The employee may be required to obtain and maintain job-related certifications and complete any training mandated by management for successful position performance.
  10. Upon reaching the target grade, the employee may be required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation. While on standby, the designee must remain fit for duty and unimpaired, maintain dedicated phone access and transportation, respond to calls within 10 minutes, and remain within a 45-minute commuting radius of the installation. On-call allowance applies strictly to designated, active standby periods and is not payable during leave, sick absence, or un-rostered days.
