We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Painting Workers at the 100th Civil Engineering Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom.
The primary duties of this position involve preparing and coating various surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete. This includes tasks like scraping, sanding, cleaning, and masking surfaces; mixing and applying coatings like primers, paints, and varnishes; and ensuring the final finish meets specified requirements. The role also requires adherence to safety protocols, maintaining a clean workspace, and properly utilizing and maintaining tools.

- Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of paints and thinning compounds.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations incl. hazardous waste management.
- Ability to read and follow instructions, standard specifications, etc. (other than blueprints).
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment such as scrapers, wire brushes, putty knives, sandpaper, paintbrushes, rollers, compressors, and spray guns.
- Ability to learn mixing, matching, and toning techniques.
What are the conditions of employment for this role?
- You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
- You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training; this position may also be coded as mission essential.
- You will be required to complete a 6‑month probationary period.
- You may be assigned other duties not included in this position description but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
- You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Your hours of work will be 39 hours per week on a fixed schedule (Mon‑Fri 0800‑1630) where start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with the organization’s flexible working policies.
- Employee may be required to work outside normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Shift work may be required.
- Emergency overtime may be required but is not guaranteed.
- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, UK valid driver’s licence (Category B) is required for the position.
- You may be required to operate and train on sign‑making machines.
- You may be required to meet the requirements for "Production Acceptance Certification" (PAC) Program.
- A pre‑appointment physical/health screening is required. Appointment may be contingent upon passing a physical examination.
- The physical requirements of this position are working at extreme heights, in cramped and hard‑to‑reach places, requiring the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
- You will be required to lift, carry, and set up materials and equipment that weigh up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, you may be required to handle materials and equipment that weigh 40 pounds and over.
- Exposure to toxic paints, chemicals, or other hazards may require occupational health examinations.
- You must successfully obtain and maintain any necessary occupational related training/certificates in accordance with US and UK industry standards, and complete all management directed training.
- You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance required for this position.
- The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident testing.
NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK. This position may have certain restrictions to US citizens including US dual nationals due to the Status of Forces Agreement.
