Job Description

The primary purpose of this role is to manage the administrative, financial, personnel, legal, and technical aspects of the Environmental Element and to provide direct mission support to host, tenant, and all other units on the base. The lead for the Environmental element oversees all section activities, including direct personnel supervision and the comprehensive management of the environmental budget. This role serves as the primary liaison for the element, representing its interests across various installation organizations while coordinating critical base environmental matters with higher headquarters, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders to ensure mission alignment and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications and Key Skills

  • A degree in an appropriate scientific field, or in community planning (Example: urban affairs, architecture, landscape architecture), plus one year of specialized experience demonstrating the required key skills listed below, or HND/City and Guilds/ NVQ Level 5/6 in an appropriate scientific field.
  • Knowledge of professional engineering/scientific principles, practices, techniques, regulations, and procedures to effectively perform supervisory functions associated with environmental compliance and restoration project development, execution, training, and advisory services.
  • Knowledge of the principles of planning and program management; common business and economic principles, theories, concepts, and procedures; financial management principles and standards; and of the Department of Defense planning, programming and budgeting system.
  • Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in evaluating state-of-the-art scientific and engineering technologies and incorporating into environmental compliance and restoration.
  • Ability to analyze, plan, organize, and direct the work operations to meet program requirements and objectives with available resources; and to mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with senior officials from a broad array of activities, including federal and local government, and industry.
  • A valid UK driver's license (Category B) is also required for the position.

  • You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
  • This position may also be coded as mission essential.
  • You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training.
  • You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
  • Start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and in accordance with organization’s flexible working policies.
  • Overtime may be required and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.
  • You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • You may be required to serve as a member of the Emergency Response Force during exercises or in the event of an actual emergency.
  • The Local National Direct Hire (LNDH) Program does not participate in regular drug testing; however, positions covered by this document may be subject to drug testing upon reasonable suspicion of substance abuse, and safety mishap or accident test.
  • NOTE: You will require a security clearance and a right to work in the UK. This position may have certain restrictions on US citizens including US dual nationals due to the Status of Forces Agreement.
