About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Taxonomist to support ecommerce and catalog initiatives within a large-scale digital product environment. This role focuses on enriching, standardising, and maintaining product attributes within a unified taxonomy to support classification systems, machine learning workflows, and improve catalog quality at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse large datasets (Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or scripting) to identify exact and fuzzy matches across vocabularies
- Research, define, and enrich taxonomy nodes using internal and external sources
- Standardise and normalise product attributes (e.g., brand, category, specifications) following governance guidelines
- Support cross-taxonomy mapping, vertical expansion, and front-end taxonomy design
- Collaborate with engineering teams on ML classification, annotation, and model output evaluation
- Communicate progress clearly and proactively with stakeholders
Required:
- 2+ years’ experience developing taxonomies and/or ontologies for front-end and back-end systems
- Experience working with ecommerce platforms or large product catalogs
- Strong understanding of taxonomy principles, classification standards, and governance
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or related field
- Experience analysing large datasets using SQL or other query languages
- Exposure to machine learning classification systems
- Familiarity with AI tools or prompt-based workflows
- Linguistics background or additional languages
