About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Taxonomist to support ecommerce and catalog initiatives within a large-scale digital product environment. This role focuses on enriching, standardising, and maintaining product attributes within a unified taxonomy to support classification systems, machine learning workflows, and improve catalog quality at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse large datasets (Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or scripting) to identify exact and fuzzy matches across vocabularies
  • Research, define, and enrich taxonomy nodes using internal and external sources
  • Standardise and normalise product attributes (e.g., brand, category, specifications) following governance guidelines
  • Support cross-taxonomy mapping, vertical expansion, and front-end taxonomy design
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on ML classification, annotation, and model output evaluation
  • Communicate progress clearly and proactively with stakeholders

Required:

  • 2+ years’ experience developing taxonomies and/or ontologies for front-end and back-end systems
  • Experience working with ecommerce platforms or large product catalogs
  • Strong understanding of taxonomy principles, classification standards, and governance
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, or related field
  • Experience analysing large datasets using SQL or other query languages
  • Exposure to machine learning classification systems
  • Familiarity with AI tools or prompt-based workflows
  • Linguistics background or additional languages
