We are seeking a Temporary Data Protection Compliance Support Officer to provide operational support to the Central Data Protection Team during a period of increased demand. The successful candidate will help manage day-to-day compliance activities, maintain accurate records, support priority data protection initiatives, and ensure key deadlines are met while working closely with the Head of Data Protection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and track Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) from initiation through completion, including monitoring actions, risks, approvals, and deadlines.
  • Administer and maintain Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) and supplier due diligence activities.
  • Support the management of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, Subject Access Requests (SARs), and data incident administration.
  • Monitor the Data Protection inbox, allocate and progress cases, and maintain accurate trackers and case records.
  • Record and monitor deadlines, outstanding actions, escalation points, and compliance risks.
  • Assist with maintaining Privacy Notices, Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), policies, and governance documentation.
  • Coordinate data protection training activities and provide administrative support to Data Champions across the organisation.
  • Ensure sensitive information is handled securely and in accordance with UK GDPR requirements.
  • Escalate complex, high-risk, or urgent matters to the Head of Data Protection where appropriate.
  • Support ongoing compliance reporting and workload management through accurate record keeping and documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven hands-on experience managing and completing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  • Experience handling Subject Access Requests (SARs), Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, data incidents, and Data Sharing Agreements.
  • Familiarity with Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), privacy notices, and supplier due diligence processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and record management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently on routine compliance activities, and identify when issues require escalation.
  • Experience working within a public sector, education, local authority, or regulated environment is highly desirable.
