We’re looking for a Process Engineer. Based at our Capenhurst site you’ll provide process engineering design and problem solving capability in support of operations and engineering. This will involve delivering improvements, trouble‑shooting plant problems as well as managing and delivering projects.

What you’ll do:

  • Identifying technical solutions to problems encountered on site and supporting the delivery of these.
  • Providing routine progress updates and specialist technical input to a variety of forums as required.
  • Improve delivery of process engineering, ensuring the full range of operating modes are considered, process engineering documents are easy to maintain and basis of design is clear.
  • Understanding and considering the implications of a change.
  • Undertaking technical investigations as required.
  • Undertaking commissioning activities when required and authorized to do so.
  • Participate in improving process engineering standards, ensuring process engineering.
  • Actively manage and record CPD from on‑the‑job training and any external learning, in order to provide robust evidence for professional registration/membership and competency demonstration.
  • Actively progress development of your knowledge of UUK assets, processes and business drivers.

With the support of more experienced engineers, the job holder is expected to ensure:

  • Inherent safety is incorporated into process design solutions.
  • The full range of operating conditions are considered.
  • Issues such as human factors, common mode failure, unrevealed failure are designed for.
  • The full process hazard range is catered for as process solutions are developed (pressure, radiological, chemotoxic, environmental – not exhaustive).
  • Documents are suitably marked and managed from a security and export control perspective.
  • Process designs are legislatively compliant.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Associate member of a relevant engineering institute, and actively pursuing chartered status.
  • Will consider candidates who have completed an Engineering-based graduate scheme (3–4 years) or equivalent as well as those with very little engineering experience.

Security vetting: Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment. Successful candidates will need to satisfy security requirements, and all offers of appointment are made subject to the successful approval of all checks initiated.
