Help us to make a world of difference. Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world.

As a Member of a Design Team you’ll deliver to multiple customers (Urenco wide) the Front End Engineering Design (FEED) including technical feasibility and best available technology (BAT) studies. You will also be acting as Process lead engineer in delivery of Conceptual and Basic Design of new build or modifications of (production) facilities; providing directions and oversight regarding design development during the execution phase to third party engineering service providers.

At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we’re looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences, along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Safety Leadership & Culture: Actively promote a proactive safety culture and perform analysis to foster a "learning from experience" mindset. Ensure advanced plant designs incorporate safety features aligned with best industrial practices and lessons learned from the (nuclear) sector.
  • Process Design & Development: Lead the design, development, and implementation of process engineering solutions for new and existing systems during the conceptual and basic design phases. Provide direction and oversight on design development during the execution phase, working closely with third parties.
  • Project & Technical Oversight: Provide technical oversight for plant modification projects, including process hazard analyses and contributions to the plant safety case. Ensure all engineering activities are compliant with regulatory, safety, and environmental standards. Support cross-functional teams in delivering major capital projects.
  • Subject Matter Expertise & Operational Support: Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in process engineering, assisting operational teams with troubleshooting and performance optimisation. Conduct process simulations, modelling, and technical calculations to inform engineering decisions.
  • Collaboration & Documentation: Collaborate with external contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies where required. Prepare and review technical documentation including process flow diagrams (PFDs), specifications, and commissioning procedures.
  • Mentorship & Development: Mentor junior engineers and actively support professional development within the engineering team.

What do you need to thrive in this role?

Essential:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership.
  • Significant experience in a process engineering role, ideally within a highly regulated environment (e.g., nuclear, chemical, or pharmaceutical).
  • Strong knowledge of process safety principles and regulatory frameworks (e.g., COMAH, DSEAR, HAZOP).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering projects or plant improvements.

Desirable:

  • Experience in nuclear operations or fuel cycle technologies.
  • Familiarity with safety case development and regulatory engagement.
  • Working knowledge of process simulation software (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS, MATLAB).

What We Offer You

  • Generous Annual Leave: Starting at 25 days, increasing by one day every two years (up to 30 days), plus 13 additional flexible days. Option to buy or sell up to 5 holiday days.
  • Family-Friendly Policies: A wide range of policies to support work-life balance and family needs.
  • Bonus Scheme: A competitive bonus scheme based on company and individual performance.
  • Pension Scheme: Defined contribution plan with up to 16% employer contribution.
  • Private Medical & Dental Cover: Single coverage with the option to purchase additional benefits.
  • Flexible Benefits: Life assurance, income protection, and other options tailored to your lifestyle, with tax and National Insurance savings.
  • Training & Development: A focus on continuous learning, with personalised training packages to support your career growth, including mandatory health and safety courses.

Security vetting: Due to the nature of the industry that Urenco operates in, all personnel regardless of employment status working for Urenco are required to obtain security clearance at the level required for their role. Security clearances are assessed in accordance with regulations and official guidance issued by the relevant competent authorities for national security vetting. In certain circumstances, additional enhanced security clearance considerations apply to roles within Urenco owing to the particular activities that the Urenco Group undertakes in relation to uranium enrichment.
