Help us to make a world of difference. Urenco is a global leader in the production of low carbon energy. We work at the cutting edge of the transition to a sustainable, net zero world. We are seeking an Electrical Systems Specialist to join our Design Engineering Delivery team at our Capenhurst site. In this role, you will support the delivery of high‑quality engineering solutions across Urenco’s Medium Frequency (MF) Variable Speed Drive (VSD) System portfolio, working with multiple internal customers.
You will contribute across the full system lifecycle, including detailed design, supply chain surveillance, design refresh and re‑qualification, design change management, supplier qualification, documentation and training. Acting as a technical specialist, you will support the Senior Electrical System Specialist in design development, design specification and the safety basis of design.
The role involves investigating and developing MF Drive System design concepts, supporting feasibility and optioneering studies and applying engineering standards to both existing and new hardware and software designs. You will execute detailed design activities both in‑house and in collaboration with external MF Drive System integrators, identifying best‑available technologies to support robust and compliant design delivery.
You will also provide technical input and advice on Medium Frequency Drive Systems, hardware and software design and engineering specifications to stakeholders across the Urenco Group, contributing to consistent, high‑quality system outcomes.
At Urenco we’re committed to giving you opportunities to be your best. If you feel you meet some, but not all of what we're looking for, please still apply. We believe in embracing the passion and potential of our people, and to achieve this we offer market leading training and development experiences. Along with the opportunity to be mentored and coached by some of the smartest minds in the industry.
What you’ll do:
- Safety & Compliance: Promote a proactive safety culture, using analysis and learning‑from‑experience to drive continuous improvement and support safe, compliant design.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identify and deliver improvements to MF Drive System performance, efficiency, and design processes, applying technological advances, industry best practice, and operational lessons learned. Ensure plant designs incorporate appropriate safety features.
- Design Development & Optioneering: Define and evaluate MF Drive System engineering options, contributing to feasibility studies, optioneering and best‑available‑technology assessments.
- Design Refresh & Re‑qualification: Manage design refresh and re‑qualification activities for MF Drive Systems, working closely with the Senior Electrical System Specialist to implement upgrades based on performance, technology, regulatory requirements and customer feedback.
- Detailed Design & Integration: Produce detailed designs for Medium Frequency Drive Systems, ensuring effective integration with system requirements, architecture and performance criteria. Support the delivery of Core Plant Technology (CPT) detailed design packages related to MF Drive System equipment.
- Requirements & Verification: Capture, interpret and develop system functional requirements using V‑Model lifecycle processes. Support hardware and software testing, verification, FAT, SAT, commissioning and handover for new MF Drive Systems.
- Technical Collaboration: Act as a technical specialist in Drive Systems, working closely with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure designs meet project schedules, budgets and customer needs.
- Design Change Management: Support design change management, ensuring changes are assessed, documented and implemented effectively with minimal disruption to ongoing work.
- Customer Training & Operational Support: Provide training and technical support on the operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of MF Drive Systems. Support existing facilities by analysing and testing legacy MF Drive System hardware and software to capture and document functional requirements.
- Post‑Implementation Review: Contribute electrical systems expertise to post‑implementation reviews, feeding back into Design Authority from a safety, licensing, operational and asset management perspective.
