Finance Assistant - Service Charges , you will support the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely service charge accounts across a portfolio of properties.
Working closely with the Service Charge Team Leader and wider finance team, you will assist with budgets, monthly reporting, reconciliations, journals, year-end accounts, and audit queries, while continuing to build your technical knowledge of service charge accounting.
Responsibilities
- Prepare annual service charge budgets for a portfolio of properties
- Support the production of year-end service charge accounts in line with client, lease, and statutory requirements
- Deliver monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis
- Maintain accurate accounting records in line with lease terms, client requirements, and accounting standards
- Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Post journals including accruals and prepayments where required
- Work closely with Property Managers and stakeholders to resolve financial queries
- Respond to client, auditor, and customer queries in a timely and professional manner
- Support audit processes by preparing required documentation and responding to queries
- Assist with billing processes including insurance and ad hoc charges
- Ensure all financial data is accurate, up to date, and audit-ready at all times
- Identify and suggest improvements to processes, controls, and systems
- Critical Skills Required
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proactive approach with a willingness to take ownership of tasks
- Basic understanding of accounting principles (or working towards qualification)
- Strong organisational and time management skill

Knowledge of Qube (Desirable)
Experience Required
- Experience working within a finance team, preferably in residential property management or service charge accounting
- Practical experience in core accounting, including reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Service charge accounts experience is essential, including exposure to year-end accounts, budgets, reconciliations, and related financial reporting
