As Finance Assistant - Service Charges, you will support the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely service charge accounts across a portfolio of properties. Working closely with the Service Charge Team Leader and wider finance team, you will assist with budgets, monthly reporting, reconciliations, journals, year-end accounts, and audit queries, while continuing to build your technical knowledge of service charge accounting


What will you do?

  • Prepare annual service charge budgets for a portfolio of properties
  • Support the production of year-end service charge accounts in line with client, lease, and statutory requirements
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly financial reports, including variance analysis
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in line with lease terms, client requirements, and accounting standards
  • Complete monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies
  • Post journals including accruals and prepayments where required
  • Work closely with Property Managers and stakeholders to resolve financial queries
  • Respond to client, auditor, and customer queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Support audit processes by preparing required documentation and responding to queries
  • Assist with billing processes including insurance and ad hoc charges
  • Ensure all financial data is accurate, up to date, and audit-ready at all times
  • Identify and suggest improvements to processes, controls, and systems

What are we looking for?

  • Experience working within a finance team, preferably in residential property management or service charge accounting
  • Practical experience in core accounting, including reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments
  • Service charge accounts experience is essential, including exposure to year-end accounts, budgets, reconciliations, and related financial reporting

Property industry experience

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload effectively
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proactive approach with a willingness to take ownership of tasks
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles (or working towards qualification)
  • Strong organisational and time management skill
