Position Overview

The IT Operations Intern will support the End User Computing function within the Enterprise Applications team, assisting Urban Science end users with their desktop, laptop, and mobile devices hardware and software needs.

Hybrid Workplace

This role has current Hybrid Workplace flexibility local to our Reading, UK or Madrid, Spain offices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of most desktop technologies and the company specific environment configurations to analyze and solve a wide range of issues in the desktop computing environment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, setting up new users, configuring mobile devices, fixing printer issues, and rebuilding computers.
  • Identify equipment requirements including hard drives, phone and other technical equipment in accordance with corporate guidelines.
  • Provide an initial level of support for server based application solutions.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to employees to ensure they have the right technology and that it is configured properly.
  • Assure software license and asset information is properly maintained.
  • Participate in IT Operations projects encompassing a range of technologies as needs arise.
  • Operate IT service management system to dispatch and maintain tickets to facilitate proper ticket flow and accurate data in reporting.

Preferred Basic Knowledge

  • End User Computing configuration management tools, Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM), and Microsoft Intune.
  • Modern workplace technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Power Platform, Office 365, Microsoft Teams and Skype for Business.
  • Scripting tools, endpoint protection tools, and security tools - PowerShell, BitLocker, Windows Defender and Cloud App Security.
  • Identifying repeatable tasks that are candidates for automation, orchestration, and empowering end users with self service capabilities, to drive efficiency.
  • Available computing and/or network hardware and peripheral equipment.
  • Computer and/or network security systems, applications, procedures, and techniques.
  • Current technological developments/trends in area of expertise preferred.
  • Federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.

Able to Learn How To

  • Troubleshoot installations or implementations.
  • Install, configure and maintain personal computers, and/or related hardware and software.
  • Identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems.
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel, assessing audience need and adjusting level of detail accordingly.
  • Write clear and concise work instructions using a defined template.
  • Work within defined processes.
  • Prioritise competing demands, manage multiple concurrent tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality.

Education And Experience

Currently pursuing a Baccalaureate degree in an appropriate IT field such as Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems from an accredited U.S. college or university, equivalent foreign institution, or equivalent experience. Current Microsoft certifications preferred.
