Position Summary: The School Psychologist collaborates with the Education Leadership team and clinical staff to support the safety, stability, and well-being of residents placed through the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. The psychologist will conduct psychological and academic assessments, develop IEP goals, measure academic progress, provide practitioner-level mental health services, and work individually with students and families to meet mental and emotional health needs. The role collaborates with the Rhode Island Department of Education to ensure quality courses and materials that respect individual learning styles while supporting FSRI’s mission of equity and inclusion.
Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological and academic assessments of students.
- Develop and monitor IEP goals and academic progress.
- Provide practitioner-level mental health services to enrolled students.
- Work individually with students and families to address mental and emotional needs.
- Collaborate with the Rhode Island Department of Education and internal teams on curriculum and resources.
- Maintain PHI compliance and provide emergency coverage as needed.
- Travel to community locations for assessments and services.
Qualifications
- RI School Psychologist certification.
- Ph.D. in clinical psychology, or a master’s or Ed.S. degree from an accredited university.
- Maintain national certification as a school psychologist (NCSP).
- Experience working with children with behavioral or psychiatric challenges.
- Proficiency in medical record software, word-processing, and database programs.
- Spanish speaking preferred; bilingual/ASL skills compensated.
- Multilingual skills compensated.
- Flexible schedule, including some evenings.
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel to community locations and the office site, including use of walkways, stairs, and elevators.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
