Responsible for teaching physical education, health education, proper use of gym equipment, and nutrition to students with significant emotional/behavioral needs in a clinical residential school setting. Develop and monitor student Individual Education Programs (IEP) in accordance with Department of Education regulations and standards. Work collaboratively with the management team to ensure safety, stability and professional guidance to students in our care placed through the Department of Children, Youth and Families. This is a part‑time, year‑round position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Teaching or Education
- RI certification as a teacher of regular or special education
- Knowledge base around subject matter (e.g., Art, Phys Ed, Science, Math, English, History)
- Experience with children with behavioral or psychiatric challenges
- Proficiency in operating various medical record software and hardware, word‑processing, and database software programs
- Spanish speaking preferred; compensated
- Excellent multitasking and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical Requirements
- Current driver’s license, reliable transportation, registration and auto insurance
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Travel to and from community locations and office site, which may include using walkways, stairs and/or elevators
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs
- Provide emergency coverage; ratio to the programs as needed
- Ability to be trained in and implement de‑escalation techniques utilizing Handle with Care when necessary
