This role supports the ULI UK team as a Senior Events and Communications Coordinator, with the ultimate objective to further the mission of ULI and the United Kingdom National Council (ULI UK). This includes but is not limited to growing and retaining the membership, organising high-quality events and programmes for various member cohorts and markets, and communicating these activities effectively. This will be done while working in close collaboration with colleagues across ULI in Europe, including other National Council teams, the National Council support team, European Marketing and Communications, Business Development and Membership.
The candidate must have strong organisational and project management skills, an entrepreneurial and hands-on spirit, the ability to multitask and respond to situations quickly. They will have experience in planning and delivering programmes of events, whilst creating the content and marketing associated with these programmes. They will have strong interpersonal skills, enjoy interacting with key stakeholders and members of the organisation, understanding the importance of networking and connection in managing events and meetings. ULI UK’s membership includes senior-level business executives, government and public officials, and senior members of the real estate and land use community – we expect staff to comport themselves to a professional standard around our members and stakeholders at all times.
The position will be based in our London office with a minimum of two (preferably three) working days a week in office. Attendance at member events is required, and dress code for events ranges from business casual to business smart depending on the occasion.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
As part of the services to our members, ULI United Kingdom organises and delivers a suite of programming including events, awards, webinars, and educational activities, on a UK wide basis. These are of strategic importance for the organisation in terms of shaping the member value proposition and our financial results. ULI is now looking for someone to work on the high-profile conferences, events, and programmes part of the U.K. annual calendar. Reporting to the UK Executive Director, your remit is to assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive events and marketing/communications programme that supports the overall objectives of the organisation.
The successful candidate will plan and assist in the content and logistics of our U.K. programming, both for flagship events and conferences as well as event programmes for a variety of member communities, ensuring high quality delivery, cost-effectiveness, and member satisfaction.
- Coordinate and execute all logistical aspects of planning and delivering high-quality National Council events (digital and physical).
- Assist the Executive Director in budget management and tracking of national council finances; invoicing and liaising with vendors, as required.
- Oversee relationships with third-party contractors; management of procurement processes and negotiating with suppliers.
- Input to the programming aspects of events by working with colleagues across ULI Europe, and National Council committee members, to identify speakers, and align the content with ULI UK programme of work.
- Handle and attend all meetings logistics before, during, and after each event.
- Work strategically to streamline the delivery of events.
- Leverage events to maximise membership growth for ULI UK and proactively follow up with engaged non-members after the events.
- In partnership with ULI UK colleagues, manage and oversee the delivery of events and programmes for Young Leaders and NEXT groups.
Marketing and communication
- Understand, communicate, and deliver the ULI brand to the UK market.
- Write copy for event marketing emails, newsletters, brochures, and promotional materials.
- Work in partnership with the UK Executive Director and the Europe marketing team to produce high-quality, appealing, creative, and tailored UK marketing materials; and create and implement innovative and effective marketing strategies.
- Monitor all marketing responses, analyse the effectiveness of marketing outlets, and deliver pre-/post-event marketing analysis including delegate feedback surveys.
- Manage social media campaigns and community management.
- Promote ULI UK events (physical or virtual) within the community and on social networks.
- Animate ULI UK social networks, with the help of marcomms colleagues and potential external experts.
- Provide support, in coordination with the press agency, on preparing event press kits.
- Keep the ULI UK website up to date.
Member Engagement and Retention
A pivotal part of this role is to engage proactively with members at every stage — including those on 90-day trial memberships, new members requiring onboarding support, and existing members seeking continued value. The incumbent will foster strong relationships through regular communication, guidance, and follow-up, ensuring members are well-informed and connected to the association’s programs, events, and communities. By applying best practices and insights shared across regions, the goal is to strengthen member engagement and contribute to improved retention outcomes.
General Management
- Access records from ULI’s database, reports, meeting rosters, badges, invoices, etc., as needed.
- Work closely with ULI colleagues to analyse membership engagement and retention and pro-actively reach out to non-engaged members/members whose membership is expiring.
- Work with the ULI UK Executive Director to analyse membership results and finetune the Council’s growth strategy.
- Proactively support the Executive Director with the preparation of the Executive Committee and other meetings.
- Perform other operational duties and manage projects, as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Independent self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision to produce a high-quality product and a successful outcome.
- Experienced events and/or project coordinator including the organisation of content, marketing, coordination and administration related to events.
- Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities, as well as adapt quickly to shifting duties and responsibilities.
- Strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines and follow up with final details, as well as a commitment to detail and accuracy.
- Self-directed and resourceful, able to initiate tasks and assume responsibility for them.
- Experience working with including negotiating with third-party suppliers.
- Experience supporting business plans/budgets, and cost tracking.
- A positive outlook, a collaborative and partnership approach.
- Strong team player.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills—an ability to interact with members and ULI staff at all levels.
- Outstanding customer/member service orientation.
- Excellent writing and communication skills, fluency in written and spoken English.
- Fluent/proficient in using Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Skilled in social media, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram.
- Design skills and website software (WordPress, Canva and basic HTML) are also a bonus.
- Occasional travel required (UK and Europe).
- Knowledge of the real estate industry and key players would be a plus.
- Experience in social media and digital marketing would be a plus.
Attendance at member events is required, as well as a hybrid working structure with a minimum of two (2) team days in the office each week.
