About us
At Urban Jungle, we’re making insurance fair - to people, planet and wallets. We’re one of the fastest-growing businesses in the UK, working to fix one of the biggest industries in the world. We put customers at the heart of everything we do, using data and technology to make insurance simple, flexible, and affordable. We care about our impact on the planet, becoming a B Corp in 2022 and offsetting our carbon emissions every year. So far, we’ve helped 300,000 customers get better insurance and become one of the top-rated home insurance providers in the UK. We placed 1st in Tempo's 2024 award for best startup to work for, and are in the top 10 of Deloitte’s Fast 50. We’ve raised over £43m in funding to date to help us with our mission.
About the role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our fast-growing Engineering team! You’ll hit the ground running, getting up to speed with our tech stack quickly so you can start shipping valuable features within your first few weeks. You’ll start with where you have the most experience and we’ll give you exposure to the rest of our services to build out your expertise. You’ll have a tangible impact from day one as you collaborate with our Product, Commercial, and Data teams to ensure we continue to build products that delight our customers.
Here’s what you’ll get up to:
- You’ll start by shipping high-impact features, then move onto larger, cross-functional projects - think product launches, partner integrations, and platform-wide improvements.
- You’ll keep growing your skillset across a wide range of technologies as you tackle meaningful, end-to-end challenges across our stack.
- You’ll bring your technical expertise to influence key decisions about how we design, build, and expand our growing portfolio of products and services.
- You’ll help shape how we scale the team - bringing your ideas to the table and having a real voice in how we grow.
Here’s what we’re looking for from you:
- You get stuff done. You can cite cross-functional, collaborative projects where you contributed from the scoping process through to release with an MVP-and-iterate mindset.
- You’re fluent in and opinionated on one or more of: Front-End Javascript frameworks (we work with Angular, but don’t judge), Python or similar languages.
- You’ve got experience with (or are at least excited to learn more about!): Front-End/UX design and prototyping, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, RabbitMQ, AWS, SQL.
- You appreciate testing and code review processes to keep standards high.
- You get a thrill out of solving problems - big or small!
- You’re a strong communicator with the ability to communicate technical concepts into layman’s terms for a non-technical audience.
- You’re not afraid to challenge the status quo if it means reaching a better outcome for our customers.
- You use your excellent time management abilities to prioritise tasks of competing urgency and importance in accordance with overarching company goals.
- You’re ambitious, and eager to progress quickly to grow alongside the company.
- You apply yourself to everything you do, recognising the difference that makes to the business.
- You treat everyone with integrity, respect and kindness - whether it’s your colleagues, our customers, or our partners.
- You’ll be a champion of our values, and encourage others to be the same.
These requirements are a guide as to what we’re looking for, but if you don’t have all of the skills listed above, that’s okay! Please don’t let that hold you back from applying if the role excites you.
