This post presents a fantastic opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about placemaking, including those at early stages in their career, to take up a key role within Swansea Council's Planning Service, and help drive forward our ambitious placemaking and heritage regeneration agendas.

Swansea sits at the heart of the Southwest Wales City Region and boasts an outstanding quality of life for residents and visitors. It is characterised by a rich, historic urban fabric and a City Centre that is currently undergoing large-scale, place‑led transformational regeneration. The city comprises a network of towns, each with a distinct identity and unique regeneration potential. Swansea also benefits from internationally recognised natural assets, including an award‑winning coastline and the Gower National Landscape with historic villages.

This varied character illustrates the diversity of placemaking and heritage work to be undertaken by the successful candidate, who will be joining a friendly and welcoming team of planners, placemaking and heritage officers. The Placemaking and Heritage Team plays a key role in guiding projects at all scales through advice, negotiation and leadership.

You will join a small team with wide-ranging cross departmental influence and will have the opportunity to develop your placemaking skills and take focused responsibility on projects, all within a supportive and structured team environment. Candidates will need to demonstrate they have the drive, passion and capabilities to take up the role, to maintain Swansea’s excellent record of collaboration and performance at the forefront of Wales’s placemaking agenda.

Candidates should have relevant experience, and it is desirable that they are either a member of a relevant professional body (IHBC, RIBA, RTPI or Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design) or are undertaking training and gaining experience to achieve this.

This permanent full‑time role offers flexible working hours and agile working to support work-life balance, generous annual leave, and a pension scheme.
