Urban Connect are currently partnered with a specialist design & build contractor to the pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences and healthcare sectors, to appoint a Senior Mechanical Designer into their growing in‑house M&E team in Rochdale. With a record pipeline and live projects ranging from £5m to £100m, including major schemes for blue‑chip clients such as AstraZeneca and GSK, they are on track to grow turnover to 150%.
Working predominantly on complex cleanrooms, laboratories, sterile manufacturing and high‑spec healthcare environments, you will fully lead the mechanical discipline on your projects with the support of Junior Engineers.
Responsibilities:- Leading mechanical/HVAC design from concept through detailed design, installation support and commissioning for turnkey design & build projects.
- Producing and checking calculations, sizing and selection for air handling units, fans, coils, ductwork, chilled water and steam systems, heating/hot and cold water services, and associated plant and distribution.
- Developing coordinated layouts with in‑house architectural, structural and electrical teams, and working with Revit coordinators to turn your sketches and layouts into integrated models and drawings.
- Meeting clients, carrying out site surveys, and providing robust, buildable solutions for laboratories, sterile manufacturing, potent processing and other complex validated environments.
- Mentoring and supporting junior mechanical engineers, helping to strengthen BES's internal mechanical/HVAC capability on major schemes.
This is a staff position with clear progression to Design Lead and ultimately Principal / Associate, where you will own commercial performance as well as multidisciplinary design delivery.
