The Network Cable Installer Apprenticeship (NCI) program develops the next generation of structured cabling professionals, equipping learners with the technical, safety, and professional skills required to operate effectively in critical infrastructure environments. We are seeking an Apprenticeship Mentor with strong industry experience in structured cabling to support apprentices throughout their learning journey. This role is central to ensuring high-quality learning outcomes, strong employer engagement, and successful completion of the apprenticeship program.

The Apprenticeship Mentor will be responsible for the end-to-end development and support of assigned apprentices, ensuring progress, engagement, and achievement across all aspects of the program:

  • Manage a caseload of apprentices, supporting their progress throughout the full apprenticeship lifecycle.
  • Conduct 8-weekly progress reviews with apprentices and employers, ensuring alignment on performance, development, and outcomes.
  • Assess and mark apprentice work, providing clear, constructive, and actionable feedback.
  • Deliver and support personal development education, including behaviours, professional skills, and career readiness.
  • Monitor, and review individual learning plans and goals, ensuring timely progression.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and pastoral support to apprentices.
  • Work closely with employers to support workplace learning, performance, and engagement.
  • Identify and address any risks to apprentice progress, including implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure apprentices are fully prepared for gateway and end-point assessment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build strong, professional relationships with apprentices to drive engagement and retention.
  • Support apprentices in developing technical competence in structured cabling and installation environments.
  • Collaborate with apprenticeship operations team to ensure a consistent, high-quality learner experience.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant learner records in line with apprenticeship and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor apprentice progress against milestones, identifying any gaps or delays early.
  • Support safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion across the learner cohort.
  • Guide apprentices in the development of portfolios and evidence for assessment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the apprenticeship program through feedback and insight.
  • Support onboarding and deliver induction to new apprentices.
  • Participate in standardization activities to ensure consistency in assessment and feedback.

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ Industry experience in structured cabling, network infrastructure, or a related field (essential).
  • Experience working in data centre, telecoms, or critical infrastructure environments (preferred).
  • Previous experience as an apprenticeship mentor, coach, or trainer (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience supporting learners or junior staff in a workplace setting.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship delivery, assessment, or workforce development (advantageous).
  • Experience working with employers and stakeholders in a professional setting.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Location: (Hybrid) Office location is Bury St Edmunds / Remote (with travel as required). Full training and support on apprenticeship delivery will be provided.
