From September 2025, Uppingham School is seeking a Placement Sports Coach with experience in any of our most popular sports - rugby, hockey, cricket, badminton, cross country, swimming, netball, tennis and athletics. Applications are also welcomed from those with an interest in athletic development, nutrition or sports data analysis.
Uppingham's vision for sport is to create an environment where all pupils can achieve success and enjoyment at whatever level they wish to participate, and our Placement Sports Coaches will have the opportunity to be part of this vision.
The role encompasses coaching and providing administrative support for sport within the School, a co-educational independent senior school in central England, and may also include coaching at some Prep Schools as part of our outreach programme.
Our Placement Sports Coaches will be involved within practical PE lessons, athletic development sessions, extra-curricular clubs, coaching a variety of sport across a wide range of ages and abilities, and supporting the Sports Department with administration.
The successful candidates will be enthusiastic team players with a love of sport. They are expected to be equally committed to participation and performance in sport, and able to engage and motivate pupils. The successful candidates will also be integral members of our busy seven-day-a-week boarding school community and will be engaged within the boarding houses.
We welcome applications from specialists in one of the above sports as well as all-rounders with several strings to their bow.
During your placement, we offer you:
- Shared accommodation for the academic year with bills included, beginning at the end of August.
- Meals during term-time.
- Coaching delivery of up to 16 hours per week.
- Be mentored by and work alongside Level 4/5 coaches in a range of sports.
- Attachment to a boarding house, additionally assisting with house trips and events.
- A small CPD budget to enable further development during the placement.
- Additional employment during summer and Easter school holidays may be available through Uppingham Enterprises (subject to successful application).
These placements are anticipated to be highly desired, and therefore early applications are encouraged.
