Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is one of Britain's leading co-educational independent boarding schools. It is located in the small market town of Uppingham, amid the rolling fields of Rutland.
Job Purpose
To deliver classes which motivate, educate and encourage adults and children of varying abilities.
Reporting to: Sales & Fitness Manager
Key Responsibilities
- To plan and deliver safe and effective classes at Uppingham School Sports Centre.
- Ensure class needs are met through class routines and organisation.
- Work with and motivate class attendees to ensure they are performing exercises correctly and safely.
- Ensure safe provision of all equipment and ensure it is used correctly and to operate within Health & Safety guidelines and undertake risk assessments.
- For the duration of the class to instruct, provide feedback and encouragement to participants.
- To welcome all participants in a professional and friendly manner.
- To prepare effectively for classes and share educational information with class participants.
- To log and report any incidents/accidents or any other concerns to the facility duty manager.
- To encourage members to reach their fitness and wellness goals.
- Instructors will be expected to promote centre events and information.
General Duties
- To arrive in good time before the class start time and to ensure facilities are set up appropriately.
- To ensure the class programs are safe and appropriate to the needs/abilities of the participants involved and provide supervision and assistance to all participants.
- Recognise your key role in the development of classes.
- Present and conduct yourself in an appropriate manner with courtesy and regard for others.
- Arrange cover for any planned absence and inform the Fitness Manager of the changes in good time.
- Wear suitable clothing for teaching.
- Attend progress and award meetings.
- Maintain your qualifications, ensuring they are up to date and relevant.
- Attend team meeting training session /employee review sessions/ CPD courses as recommended.

- Up to date and valid certification for classes being delivered.
- LesMills Body Pump Exercise to music qualification.

- Confident with the ability to enthuse and motivate clients.
- Physically fit.
- Flexible with regards to availability.

Terms and Conditions
- Salary: £22.94 per hour.
- Working Hours: Les Mills Body Pump Monday 17:30 - 18:15, Wednesday 19:00 - 19:45.
- Pension scheme: Defined contribution scheme: employee contribution matched by School by factor of two, up to 10% maximum (dependent on eligibility).
