Uppingham Community College are looking for a caring, experienced and enthusiastic Medical Support Officer to join our team and be a proactive integrated member of the School Staff Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide primary medical care and first aid to students and staff during school hours.
- Support pupils’ wellbeing by identifying health needs, managing medical conditions, and advising on appropriate care plans and reasonable adjustments.
- Work collaboratively with school staff, parents/carers and external health services to promote a safe, healthy school environment and ensure compliance with health and safeguarding requirements.
What We’re Looking For
- Basic medical knowledge, ideally with medical experience in a school or community setting.
- Up to date first aid skills desirable; training can be provided.
- Experience supporting young people with acute illnesses, injuries and long‑term medical conditions.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and child protection requirements desirable; full training will be given.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with secondary‑age students in a supportive and professional manner.
- Excellent communication skills with students, staff, parents/carers and external professionals.
- Confidence in maintaining accurate medical records and managing medication safely.
- Organised, calm and professional, with the ability to manage a busy medical room independently.
- Decision‑making skills to respond effectively to emergencies and changing priorities in a school environment.
Qualifications
- 4 GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
- Full, clean driving licence
- First aid at work qualification
