The Manufacturing Manager is responsible for GMP clinical operations. The main responsibilities include:

  • Management of the GMP clinical team and processes.
  • Generation and completion of associated documents.
  • Management of the controlled cleanroom facility and equipment to produce batches on time, in full and to the appropriate level of quality.
  • Critical interface with other functional departments within Upperton.
  • Facilitating the transfer of projects from both external and internal sources.
  • Adherence to the Pharmaceutical Quality System.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the GMP controlled cleanroom facility is fully compliant with the Upperton Quality System.
  • Manage and structure the GMP clinical team, responsible for target setting, performance management, training and regular appraisal.
  • Maintain consistently high standards of supervision of team members.
  • Direct all clinical production activities to ensure project deliverables and targets are successfully met and are of the highest quality.
  • Contribute to adherence to the Operations budget.
  • Assign a manufacturing lead for project handover from technical transfer to GMP clinical manufacturing and work closely with the project manager to ensure key milestones are met.
  • Ensure operators have read and understood SOPs and received sufficient training to manufacture quality products.
  • Ensure products of the appropriate level of quality are manufactured according to batch manufacturing records.
  • Ensure the technical content of batch manufacturing records is correct and approved prior to use.
  • In liaison with the warehouse team, ensure raw materials and manufactured products are stored correctly.
  • Ensure routine cleaning of the Controlled Cleanroom facility is performed and documented.
  • Ensure the Controlled Cleanroom facility is suitable for use, qualified and maintained.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and leading a manufacturing function.
  • Educated to degree level or higher in a related scientific/technical discipline or have relevant work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organisation skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to effectively contribute within a team environment and work on own initiative.
  • Strong focus on quality and safety.
