UPP is the UK's leading provider of on-campus student accommodation, operating a diverse portfolio of university sites across the UK, including here in Exeter! We're passionate about providing exceptional places for students to live and learn, where they can feel at home and focus on their studies.

At UPP Exeter, we're looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join our dedicated onsite team, helping to ensure our student residences are safe, comfortable and operating at their very best.

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week on a 7-week rolling rota. Most weeks you’ll work Monday to Friday 8am-4pm or 9am-5pm, with just 1 week in the cycle working 12pm-8pm and the weekend off. The rota includes some weekend working with days off during the week to provide you with work life balance. We’re happy to provide you with a copy of the rota so you can see exactly how it works and the flexibility it offers. The salary for this role is £27,793 per annum.

As a Maintenance Assistant, you'll play a key role in delivering an excellent living environment for our residents by:

  • Carrying out reactive maintenance and repairs in line with service level agreements
  • Providing a first-line response to maintenance issues across our accommodation
  • Maintaining clean, safe and presentable communal areas and external spaces throughout the year
  • Supporting the safe movement of furniture, mattresses, white goods and waste materials
  • Identifying and reporting Health & Safety concerns and escalating issues where required
  • Contributing to a positive student experience through excellent customer service

You'll enjoy a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, working within a supportive team and making a visible difference to the experience of thousands of students throughout the year.

We’re looking for you to have some experience in a maintenance, facilities or property environment, with strong communication and organisational skills and a genuine pride in delivering a high-quality service. Along with:

  • An understanding of building services and safe working practices
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements and a commitment to working safely at all times
  • A proactive, flexible approach and willingness to support the wider team when needed
  • The ability to work additional hours during peak student arrival and departure periods, when required and with notice
  • A full UK driving licence

Most importantly, we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a passion for making a difference. We will provide shadowing, training and development to help you build your skills on the job and succeed in the role.

In return, we are offering a fun and interesting environment to work in, with a competitive salary and a great benefits package including:

  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Pension scheme
  • Life assurance
  • Health cash plan via Medicash, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), virtual GP Service, wellness app and Annual Health Checks
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • UPP Rewards discount portal and discounts across a wide range of retailers, restaurants, gyms and more

All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory references covering your previous three years of work and may be subject to additional vetting checks, including a Basic DBS check.
