Here at UPP we partner with 14 universities across England and Wales including at Reading, Oxford, London, Swansea, Plymouth, Exeter, Lancaster, Leeds, Hull, Nottingham, York and Loughborough. We manage c.600 blocks with 22 High Rise Buildings (HRB's). Our goal is for UPP to become a sector leader for Fire and Building Safety compliance ensuring our residents remain safe in their homes.
We are growing our team and have a great opportunity for a Building Safety Manager to lead the delivery of Building Safety Cases and Building Safety Case Reports to provide to the Regulator when invited to apply for their Building Assessment Certificate. You will be responsible for capturing and recording evidence that supports the Golden Thread and Building Safety Case Reports, with continued management of all relevant documentation for each building.
You will work with and support the Head of Fire Building Safety and the Building Safety Team in ensuring ongoing compliance with the requirements of the Building Safety Act 2022 and lead on all aspects of building safety on behalf of UPP. Responsible for establishing governance over these sites providing specialist advice and guidance within Building Safety to the operational teams on technical matters whilst working in line with our values and behaviours, acting as an ambassador for UPP with our university partners, students, and colleagues across the business.
Working in partnership with other internal stakeholders in respect of lifecycle works, building and asset specifications and new build handovers, whilst collaborating with the UPP Safety, Health and Wellbeing team, ensuring that all work elements are delivered in line with UPP's Health and Safety policies and procedures. Regular contact with the site-based teams will be a key requirement for this role, including attendance to the Building Safety Forum and regular engagement with Regulatory Bodies, UPP Partners, UPP Group functions and our residents.
This is a home-based role and you will ideally live around the Midlands or Northern England, as you will be predominantly covering these regions. On occasion you will be required to travel to other sites across the UK.
We are looking for you to already be working in a similar role and environment, have significant experience in building safety, a good knowledge of relevant building safety legislation, building regulations and technical standards, along with membership of IFE, IFSM or similar. You will be used to dealing with varying stakeholder groups, such as residents, site teams, contractors, enforcing authorities and government agencies, plus be competent in compiling reports, updating and maintaining detailed information systems, ensuring that data is logged accurately and consistently.
You will have excellent communication skills both verbally and presentation with a customer focused approach and the ability to take on a varied workload whilst demonstrating initiative with a proactive and flexible attitude. Overall, you will be comfortable explaining building safety issues clearly to internal and external stakeholders with the ability to challenge when required and flag any risks/issues. Experience in higher education or other accommodation sector experience would also be an advantage for this role.
