UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic (UPMC SSC) is a world-class hospital and international centre of excellence in orthopaedics and sports medicine, located in Santry, Dublin. It is globally recognised for its advanced clinical care, high research output, and patient-centred multidisciplinary approach. As part of the global UPMC network, UPMC SSC is at the forefront of innovation, diagnostics, and rehabilitation in musculoskeletal (MSK) health. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced SEM Consultant to join our dynamic and expanding clinical team. This role offers the opportunity to work in a cutting-edge facility with access to a full suite of diagnostics, procedural support, and rehabilitation services. The successful candidate will contribute to both clinical service delivery and the advancement of care through education, audit, and research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and non-operative management of MSK and sport-related injuries
- Develop and implement individualised treatment plans rooted in evidence-based medicine
- Work collaboratively with an on-site multidisciplinary team, including orthopaedic consultants, neurosurgeons, rheumatologists, pain specialists, radiologists, physiotherapists, S&C coaches, biomechanists and nursing staff
- Utilise full access to onsite imaging (MRI, X-ray, ultrasound) and injection rooms for guided procedures
- Perform ultrasound-guided MSK injections (e.g. corticosteroid, PRP, hyaluronic acid)
- Integrate advanced diagnostic tools including 3D movement analysis, strength and power measurement into clinical practice
- Advise on injury prevention, health screening, and return-to-play protocols
- Support and lead initiatives in research, audit, teaching, and clinical governance
- Represent UPMC SSC in professional and community forums, conferences, and events

- Expertise in sports and exercise medicine, MSK injury diagnosis and management, and rehabilitation planning
- Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a high-performing team
- Skilled in interpreting diagnostic imaging and performance data
- Strong understanding of return-to-play decision-making and athlete welfare
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems

Desirable (but not essential):
- Certification in ultrasound-guided procedures or regenerative injection therapies
- Previous experience with elite or professional athletes
- Involvement in academic research or medical education

- Full registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC).
- Must be on the Specialist Register in Sports and Exercise Medicine.
- Demonstrated experience working with athletes, active individuals and in MSK / sports medicine clinics.
- Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary team environment.
