Job Title: Chemical Process Technician
Job Type: Full time, 5 days on site
Salary: £32,000-£42,000 dependent on experience
About the Role
Uplift360 UK is looking for an enthusiastic Chemical Process Technician to join our sustainable materials company. The individual will be a key member of the Uplift360 engineering team, supporting the scale-up and industrialisation of our novel chemical recycling technology.
You will join during the transition from pre-pilot to pilot scale, working in a changing environment to help us continue delivering whilst building and commissioning future capabilities.
This is a hands‑on role, you will be the person who fits the pump, traces the fault, sources components and consumables, and keeps the plant running. You will work closely with the engineering and chemistry teams, supporting experimental trials and making sure the physical infrastructure does what it needs to do.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in practical excellence, in knowing the plant intimately, in fixing things properly, and in being the person the team relies on to keep things moving.
You will be a core part of a small but strong engineering team, working to deliver circular economy advanced material processes.
About Uplift360
Uplift360 is an Advanced Materials Company securing sovereign supply for Europe’s defence, security and vital industries.
We secure and produce critical advanced materials, including carbon fibre and aramids, for European defence and industry by sourcing, recovering and regenerating high‑value materials into secure industrial supply chains.
As geopolitical instability, supply chain fragility and industrial competition intensify, access to advanced materials is becoming a defining strategic advantage.
Uplift360 is building the infrastructure and technology required to secure it.
As a Process Technician, your key accountabilities will include:
Build & Commissioning
- Support the physical build and commissioning of engineering equipment, fitting, installing, and testing mechanical and process systems.
- Install and commission auxiliary process equipment: pumps, pipework, valves, conveyors, heat exchangers, and ancillary systems.
- Fabricate bespoke brackets, fixtures, supports, and adaptations as needed, using appropriate materials and methods.
- Work alongside the engineering team and external contractors during build phases, contributing practical hands‑on capability.
Operations & Maintenance
- Operate the pilot plant during process development trials, following SOPs, monitoring conditions, and flagging anomalies.
- Own preventative maintenance of pilot plant equipment: scheduled servicing, calibration checks, and consumable management.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process faults diagnostically, identify root causes, implement fixes, and document what was done and why.
- Maintain the plant in a safe, clean, and organised state, taking personal ownership of the physical environment.
Trial Support
- Support experimental trials run by the engineering and R&D team, setting up equipment, monitoring runs, collecting samples, and recording data.
- Prepare equipment and materials ahead of planned trial programmes, ensuring the plant is ready and nothing is left to chance on the day.
- Contribute practical observations during trials. You will often notice things others don’t because you know the plant best.
Safety & Standards
- Follow and contribute to safe working practices, risk assessments, and SOPs.
- Identify and report hazards or near misses promptly. Safety is everyone’s job.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, plant modifications, and equipment status.
These key accountabilities listed above describes an overview of the post and is not intended to be exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable additional tasks of similar level that may be necessary and not listed.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Personal Qualities:
- Practical operational capabilities, demonstrated through experience, technical training, and a track record of building, maintaining and operating process equipment.
- Experience working with process plant, industrial equipment, or mechanical systems in a hands‑on capacity.
- A genuine fixer’s mentality, with a systematic approach to fault‑finding rather than just swapping parts until something works.
- Comfortable working safely with chemical process equipment and understanding the importance of following procedures in a process environment.
- Reliable, self‑motivated, and takes ownership, the kind of person who notices something needs doing and does it.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
- A-levels or BTEC in science or engineering, relevant apprenticeships, HNC/HND, or equivalent practical technical training.
- Experience or knowledge of advanced materials, fibre‑reinforced polymer composites, or technical fibres such as carbon, glass or para‑aramid.
- Experience in chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, or any process industry environment.
- Experience or training in health and safety, for example IOSH or NEBOSH.
- Familiarity with electrical systems, instrumentation, or control panels at a maintenance level.
- Forklift, IPAF, or other relevant operational licences.
- The right person for this role won’t be defined by their qualifications. They’ll be defined by how they approach a problem when something isn’t working and nobody has told them what to do about it.
