Why Join Them: This Health & Safety Manager position has been created due to continued company growth and an expanding project portfolio. The business already employs an experienced Health & Safety Manager and is now looking to strengthen the team with a second Health & Safety Manager to support its increasing workload across the UK. The role is split between site visits, office-based work in Stockton-on-Tees and home working. Ideally, you will spend 2-3 days per week on site, one day in the office and the remaining time working from home.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the company's health and safety management systems
  • Conducting regular site inspections, audits and compliance reviews across live projects
  • Preparing, reviewing and approving Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
  • Carrying out project-specific risk assessments and ensuring appropriate control measures are in place
  • Managing fatigue risk processes and monitoring compliance with working time requirements

  • Supporting project teams in developing safe systems of work
  • Monitoring site activities and providing practical health and safety guidance to managers, supervisors and operatives
  • Assisting with accident, incident and near-miss investigations
  • Producing reports and ensuring corrective actions are completed
  • Supporting RISQS compliance, audits and accreditation requirements
  • Maintaining compliance with rail industry standards, client requirements and relevant legislation
  • Reviewing subcontractor compliance and monitoring site safety performance
  • Supporting permit-to-work systems and site safety documentation
  • Monitoring training, competency and compliance records
  • Working closely with operational teams during project planning and delivery
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the business

Applicants should have previous experience within a Health & Safety Manager role in the construction sector. Experience working on rail projects is highly desirable, along with a good understanding of RISQS requirements and rail industry standards. Candidates should be comfortable travelling nationally and working across multiple project locations.

Summary: This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a growing contractor with a strong presence in the rail and construction sectors. Offering a varied workload, flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to work on projects valued up to £10m, the role provides long-term career stability and the chance to play a key part in the company's continued growth.
