About the company
This business is a multi-disciplinary specialist operating within the remedial repair and strengthening sector of the construction industry. They solve interesting and often complex engineering problems for a wide range of clients, including insurance companies, County Highways, Network Rail, Tier 1 contractors, engineers and private clients. Their work is highly varied, covering all types of structures from domestic dwellings through to rail and road bridges. They have a dedicated geotechnics division and deliver remedial structural solutions including underpinning, piling, ground injection and retaining walls. One of their key specialisms is historic buildings and structures, working on everything from houses, churches and monuments to masonry arched bridges and vaults.
Why join them
This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior Engineer who enjoys variety and wants to be involved in real engineering challenges rather than sitting at a desk all day. You’ll work within a supportive, close-knit team that genuinely values its people. Professional development is actively encouraged, with support provided toward achieving professional status alongside full health and safety training. The company describes itself as a “cuddly contractor”, treating staff and site technicians as part of one team.
About the role
As a Junior Engineer, you will be involved in a broad mix of office and site-based work. This includes surveys, inspections, supervision of works and assisting with technical design and problem-solving. The consultancy division provides structural designs for strengthening masonry arches, temporary works, and a wide range of structures, as well as supporting clients with listed building consent, design and access statements and approved scopes of work.
Ideally, the successful Junior Engineer will have around three to four years’ experience gained within a consultancy or contractor environment, with experience of both being desirable but not essential. What matters most is a practical mindset, curiosity and an interest in tackling unusual and varied engineering projects. Travel is required, mainly across the South East but also nationwide, so a clean UK driving licence is essential.
Key points:
- Junior Engineer role with varied project exposure
- Mix of consultancy and contractor-style experience
- Involvement in site works, surveys and supervision
- Strong focus on professional development and support toward chartership
- Office based in Slough with UK travel
- Hybrid working available after probation
