An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Structural Steel Engineer to join a well-established structural steel specialist based in Darlington, delivering major construction projects across the North East. This role offers a varied workload, working alongside experienced site teams on structural steel and precast concrete installations. As a Structural Steel Engineer, you will be responsible for setting out, surveying and maintaining precise installation tolerances throughout project delivery. This position is ideal for someone with previous structural steel or heavy construction experience who enjoys working on technically demanding projects.

Location: Darlington, County Durham, with projects predominantly across the North East.

This is a permanent, full-time position offering a secure pipeline of work across structural steel and precast concrete projects.

About the Company: Based in Darlington, this established specialist contractor provides structural steel erection and precast concrete installation services on projects throughout the UK. The business works across a wide range of sectors, delivering structural steel frames, portal frame buildings, architectural steelwork, glazing support structures and complex steel installations. Alongside this, they install precast concrete components including retaining walls, staircases, hollowcore flooring and other structural elements. With experienced in-house site teams, modern lifting equipment and a strong commitment to safety, quality and programme delivery, they have built an excellent reputation for successfully delivering challenging construction projects for leading contractors nationwide.

The first assignment is expected to commence at QTS Blyth from 10th August (subject to programme) and is anticipated to run for approximately five weeks. The project involves the relocation of 144 site containers, requiring accurate setting out and continuous monitoring of installation tolerances throughout the works.

About the Role: The Structural Steel Engineer will provide engineering support across structural steel and precast concrete projects, ensuring all setting out is completed accurately and works are delivered in accordance with design requirements. Responsibilities include:

  • Setting out works using a Total Station
  • Establishing accurate positions for the relocation of 144 site containers
  • Maintaining engineering tolerances throughout installation
  • Carrying out site surveys and dimensional checks
  • Interpreting engineering drawings and site information
  • Working closely with site management and erection teams
  • Producing accurate site records and as-built information
  • Identifying and resolving engineering issues on site
  • Ensuring works are completed safely and in line with project specifications
  • Supporting projects across the North East as required

Working hours are 07:30 - 17:30 Monday to Friday, with weekend working available when required by the project programme.
