Up Front Recruitment is working with a specialist remediation and brownfield enabling works contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor for its growing Contract & Commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to take a key role in the commercial delivery of complex remediation, enabling works and civil engineering projects across the UK.
The role will ideally be based from the company's Cardiff office, working closely with the Commercial Manager, Project Managers and operational Site Teams, with travel to live project sites as and when required.
About the Company
Our client is a specialist contractor with more than 30 years' experience in the UK, operating across brownfield remediation, enabling works, waste management, soil treatment and environmental services. The business forms part of a major international engineering and project solutions group, providing the backing and resources of a global organisation while retaining its specialist UK expertise. Its capabilities include remediation, demolition, earthworks, infrastructure, basement reconstruction, piling, materials management, recycling and water treatment, alongside off-site soil treatment and total waste management services. The business provides end-to-end solutions across complex brownfield and industrial projects, from early contractor involvement, remediation design and regulatory liaison through to project delivery, verification and final completion. With a strong pipeline of technically challenging projects, this is an opportunity to join a specialist business where the commercial function plays an important role in successful project delivery.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from tender through to final account, working closely with Project Managers and Site Teams to maximise commercial performance. This is a genuinely hands-on, site-focused QS position. You will be expected to get involved in the detail of live projects, rather than operating purely at a high-level commercial management level. You will be responsible for controlling costs, managing contractual obligations, identifying commercial opportunities and risks, managing subcontractors and ensuring projects are delivered profitably.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial delivery of projects from tender through to final account.
- Prepare cost plans, budgets, forecasts and monthly commercial reports, including CVRs.
- Prepare and agree applications for payment and valuations.
- Manage subcontract procurement, payments, variations and final accounts.
- Administer projects under NEC and JCT contracts.
- Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities, changes and compensation events.
- Undertake site measurement and valuation of completed works.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Site Teams to maximise commercial performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor project costs, margins and commercial performance.
- Support month-end reporting and project reviews.
- Provide commercial support to the pre-construction and estimating teams where required.
About You
The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will have a strong practical commercial background and the confidence to take ownership of live projects. We're particularly interested in candidates with:
- Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, remediation or a similar construction environment.
- Strong practical experience working with both NEC and JCT forms of contract.
- Experience managing projects commercially from tender through to final account.
- Strong knowledge of CVRs, cost reporting, valuations, subcontract management, change control and final accounts.
- Experience identifying and managing commercial risks, opportunities and contractual changes.
- Strong commercial judgement and negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with operational teams, clients and subcontractors.
- A Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Quantity Surveying.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to operational sites throughout the UK.
Direct remediation experience would be advantageous but is not essential. The company is also open to experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors from the wider construction and civil engineering sectors, particularly those with strong JCT and NEC experience and a practical, site-focused approach.
If you're an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for genuine commercial responsibility, exposure to complex projects and the opportunity to develop your career within a specialist civil engineering and remediation environment, we'd like to hear from you. Contact Mark at Up Front Recruitment for further information or to apply. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
