At Updraft, you will help build a fairer credit system.
The role will lead Updraft's Underwriting team and will be responsible for all of the procedures within Underwriting, constantly improving them to optimise speed of decision with business outcomes. Responsibilities include:
- Owning the Underwriting policy and procedures, making continual improvements to ensure they align with new business campaigns and application types.
- Reviewing cases where a customer has been a victim of fraud to determine the appropriate outcome.
- Providing regular feedback to the Credit Risk team on the quality of referrals and opportunities for improvement.
- Delivering fast-paced change through automation and AI to improve process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Leading a team of human and AI agents to deliver against Underwriting targets.
- Personally reviewing referrals, when necessary, to ensure the team remains within SLA.
- Presenting key MI to the leadership team on a regular basis, alongside plans for continual performance improvement.
- Working closely with Data Science, Engineering, Compliance, and other customer-facing teams to ensure decisions support both customer outcomes and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
- Strong background in Underwriting within Consumer Lending.
- Familiarity with start-up culture and comfort with fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Proven track record of improving efficiency through the use of AI and automation.
- Proven experience in leading teams and managing cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders and provide updates to the leadership team effectively.
- Previous experience with consumer finance, particularly in credit cards, personal loans, or buy-now-pay-later products.
