This new role is pivotal in ensuring our developments have the highest standards of Health and Safety across the Group. It will involve travel across our regions and could be based from any of our regional offices.
Aim of the role: Lead the development and embedding of a high-performance Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) culture across the Group by providing strategic leadership to the SHE Performance and Culture Partner team, while influencing, challenging, advising and coaching senior leaders and key stakeholders to achieve and sustain operational excellence and SHE performance.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintain a dynamic and driven approach to promoting and supporting H&S across both the Group and Regions.
- Be an ambassador for H&S and promote innovative thinking which enables solutions to problems to be identified and implemented effectively with the Group and Regions.
- Support the Group H&S Director with both the day-to-day operational management of the Regional H&S Managers under their direction, as well as identifying suitable strategies and development opportunities to ensure that the Group continually improves its H&S performance and is seen amongst its peers as a leader in H&S within the house building sector.
- Support and work closely with the Group H&S Director to assist both Group Support Functions / Regional Management Teams and the wider Supply Chain in achieving Group H&S objectives and targets contained within both Group/Regional H&S Plans.
- Facilitate the implementation and ongoing maintenance of the Group H&S Management System to reduce risk, support a positive H&S culture and ensure the Group/Regions remain compliant with all relevant H&S legislation.
- Ensure that both Group/Regional Reports (including league tables) are produced based on both external inspections and internal H&S compliance measures to highlight overall H&S performance, key issues and trends as well as significant areas of non-compliance, so that areas for improvement are targeted against real time data.
- Manage and co-ordinate the Regional H&S Managers to ensure they proactively support their Regions and senior management teams on a day-to-day basis by providing reports, guidance and support on H&S issues.
- Monitor the performance of Regional H&S Managers to ensure key responsibilities are being met, putting measures in place for improvement and personal development through coaching and structured development plans.
- Work with Group HR/L&D, to ensure all staff, including group/office/site/sales and customer care personnel, have received/undertaken appropriate H&S training and instruction for their specific roles.
- Attend and support with Quarterly Group H&S Leadership Meetings and monitor adequate cascade of relevant/necessary H&S information into Regions via Monthly H&S Leadership Meetings.
- Under the direction of the Group H&S Director, develop, maintain and implement H&S leading and lagging KPIs and any necessary improvement programmes for both the Group and Regions.
- Co-ordinate and monitor accident/incident investigations to ensure they are promptly investigated by the Regional H&S Managers and reports are produced in a timely manner which identify root causation and actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Where actions and lessons learnt are captured make sure that they are communicated and acted upon accordingly.
- Develop and maintain close links with industry, suppliers and stakeholders to identify H&S business and operational development opportunities to promote safer, more efficient ways of working.
- Be responsible for preparing and submitting any Group H&S award submissions.
- In the absence of the Group H&S Director will be the designated Deputy in charge of the Group H&S Department.
We're looking for the following skills and experience:
- Holds relevant qualifications (Degree/Diploma (or working towards) in Health and Safety or equivalent).
- Chartered SHE professional or equivalent (or demonstrable IPD/CPD equivalent).
- Detailed understanding of H&S legislation.
- Extensive experience in similar or supporting post – Group H&S support functions in a multi region or national role.
- Ability to lead a team and to positively influence senior stakeholders.
- Use of systems and data to identify trends and develop strategy and initiatives.
- Examples of presenting reports/data to senior stakeholders.
- Team or line management, to include employee development.
- Methodical & able to follow through, even for small matters.
- Good oral and written communicator at all corporate levels.
- Experience of training teams and public speaking.
- Ability to work on own initiative, deliver key objectives and work under pressure.
- Holder of a Full UK driver’s Licence.
